Analysing Opening Scenes - Conclusion

I’ve now looked at five different opening scenes from five different genres. I have noticed that there are some conventions that come up time and time again. These conventions are:

Titles

 Production company logos

Credits

  Music

I have analysed these opening sequences and have noted similarities and differences below

Similarities 

Engage the viewer.

One of the similarities of all the openings is that they all create enigma which draws in the audience.
They all try to develop their characters to connect with the audience.
They all use typical conventions of their genre.
They often use establishing shots to set the scene.

Differences

They all have different typical conventions as they are all different genres.

The camera and editing varies depending on the genre.
